CUPRA’s first standalone model
CUPRA has unveiled its first standalone model, the CUPRA Formentor, with orders now open in the UK and first deliveries in December 2020. The new coupe SUV will offer two plug-in hybrid engines which will offer up to 31 miles of electric range (based on WLTP).
The CUPRA Formentor sits on the MQB architecture, which is the same platform the CUPRA Ateca sits on. The Formentor is slightly longer than the Ateca but lower by 150mm and only 50mm higher than the CUPRA Leon.
Step inside the Formentor and you’ll instantly notice the spacious cockpit full of the latest technology. There’s plenty of room for the driver and four passengers with comfortable leg room and head space for the rear passengers. The wide boot offers 420-litres of luggage space (450 litres on the 148bhp petrol due to its more compact rear axle and 345 litres on the hybrids due to the space for the batteries).
As you’ll expect, CUPRA’s trademark colours are available across the range including metallic and matte options.
The performance SUV is equipped with advanced technology and features to ensure your journeys are as comfortable as they can be.
The 10” Digital Cockpit and 12" centre console touchscreen both come as standard across all trims. The Digital Cockpit is customisable so set which information you’ prefer to see and you’re good to go.
As standard across all of the trims you’ll find: Navigation with Voice Control, Wireless Phone Charger, DAB, Tinted Rear Windows, Welcome Lights and CUPRA Connect to name a few.
Safety is paramount in the CUPRA Formentor with many safety features coming as standard on all trims. We’ll not go through them all but expect Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control with Speed Limiter, Start/Stop With Regenerative Braking, Lane Assist and Driver Alert System.
Engines & Trims
The new SUV is available with a number of engines ranging between 1.5 and 2.0 litre petrol engine offering power outputs from 150PS to 310PS. In 2021, there’ll be two plug-in hybrid engines available (204PS and 245PS) which will be paired with a 1.4-litre petrol power unit with a 115PS (85kW) electric motor, powered by a 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack offering up to 31 miles of electric range (based on WLTP).
The top of the range model offers impressive performance, accelerating from 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds! If that’s not power, we don’t know what is. The drivetrain is familiar to those who have experienced the CUPRA Ateca, CUPRA Leon or Volkswagen Golf R.
Depending on which engine and trim, prices start from £27,300 and rise to £43,840. The trims available/coming soon are V1, V2, VZ1, VZ2, VZ3 and the VZ Edition. There will only be 100 units of the VZ Edition model available in the UK.
